I’m a child of the 1970’s, and broke his Mum’s heart when at the tender age of 16 I joined the British Army. Having spent my life running around and being active during my school years, joining the military was a natural outlet for this energy.
During a military career that spanned 20 years service, I had a fantastic time travelling the world, taking part in some amazing activities and having the privledge to lead men and women from all backgrounds and walks of life.
Highlights of a career in uniform include three years at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst; one of them as a cadet and two as an instructor. I’m equally proud of my service with 3 Commando Brigade and proud owner of the coveted green beret. I also attended the Defence Academy and Staff College, gaining my MSc in Supply Chain Management, before resigning my commission at the rank of Major and embarking on the next chapter.
Starting my own consultancy business back in 2007 was a little bit scary and a venture into the unknown. But one thing I have always done when faced with a challenge, is to find out as much as I can about whatever it is I’m going into and arm myself with the best chance of success – [applied] knowledge is power after all! I’m a firm believer in learning from others and reading widely on any given subject; I set myself the challenge of reading one book a week.
Twelve years on and I’m still having a blast, working with teams and individuals, helping them be the best version of themselves. I have done this across all sectors including finance, health, construction, video games, defence, civil service, retail, law and pretty much everything in between!
I now focus on two main areas for my coaching work, all of which takes place online, either 1-to-1 or in small groups:
- Helping leaders and business owners be the best they can be.
- Coaching those individuals considering a career change
My purpose is to inspire people to live full, abundant lives without limits and my business strategy is ‘deep work’. This means that when I work with my clients, we go ‘all in’. Working together over several months in order to make real progress and meaningful change. I do not do one-offs – that’s just ineffective and doesn’t go deep enough.
On a personal note, I’m married with two children (18 & 15 years) who are blossoming into wonderful (and opinionated) adults. I’m a lifelong Watford FC fan, Ironman & GB triathlete and closet geek (I built this website). I’m also a student of ancient philosophy, particularly Stoicism and enjoy deep, enriching conversations with people; as such I have my own podcast called ‘Give Yourself The Chat!’
